B-scan ultrasonography of orbital lymphangiomas.

چکیده
Unilateral exophthalmos is an important clinical ophthalmic problem. A clinical diagnosis of the cause of the exophthalmos is often very difficult. B-scan ultrasonography is an important new diagnostic modality with great potential in determination of the nature of orbital pathology. The earliest ophthalmic applications of ultrasound were reported by Mundt and Hughes (I956). A-scan ultrasound, as described by Oksala and Lehtinen (I957), Gernet (I963), and Ossoinig (I969), is now widely used. B-scan ultrasound was initially utilized in only a few laboratories (Baum and Greenwood, I958; Purnell, I965) because of the high cost and complexity of early B-scan instrumentation. B-scan equipment has recently become more readily available (Coleman, Konig, and Katz, I 969). B-scan ultrasound yields two-dimensional "acoustic sections" of the eye and orbit and is the technique of choice for orbital diagnosis. The difference between ultrasonic Aand B-scans is shown diagrammatically in Fig. I.

Orbital ultrasonography for diagnosis and evaluation of retrobulbar vascular disorders
Diagnostic and differential diagnostic of orbital diseases are considered to be one of the most difficult problems in ophthalmology because most orbital pathologies display the same signs and symptoms. Condition of orbital tissues can be evaluated using three different radiology imaging techniques: A/B-scan ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. A/B-scan ultrasono...
متن کاملB-scan ultrasonography of ocular abnormalities: a review of 182 dogs
Ultrasonography is the only practical method for obtaining images of the posterior segment of the eye when the light-conducting media are opaque. In this study, 182 dogs with ocular abnormalities presented to the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology from December 2008-August 2010 were included. All the animals were subjected to detailed ophthalmic examination and B-scan ultrasonograph...
متن کاملA huge Omental Lymphangioma with extention into Labia Majorae: A case report
BACKGROUND Abdominal cystic lymphangiomas are uncommon congenital benign tumors. CASE PRESENTATION We present a case of a 4 year old female child with a cystic lymphangioma arising from greater omentum and occupying whole of the abdomen and protruding through labia mejora. Ultrasonography and CT scan confirmed the diagnosis. Complete excision of the cyst along with omentectomy done with no cl...
متن کاملSubtotal excision with adjunctive sclerosing therapy for the treatment of severe symptomatic orbital lymphangiomas.
Orbital lymphangiomas are congenital malformations with abnormal and dead-end lymphatic channels and present management challenges to ophthalmologists and orbital surgeons. Recurrent hemorrhage and expansion can lead to vision loss and disfigurement. We report our technique that uses adjunctive intraoperative injection of sodium morrhuate, 5%, under direct visualization into lymphangioma channe...
متن کاملCases of Atypical Lymphangiomas in Children
Background. Lymphatic malformations or lymphangiomas are rare benign hamartomas that result from maldevelopment of primitive lymphatic sacs. They are most frequently found in the neck and axilla, while intra-abdominal and mediastinal lymphangiomas are uncommon. These are primarily tumours of infancy and childhood and are successfully treated with surgical excision. Summary of Cases. Five cases ...
